Burger Bar Baptisms - one cup of coffee...

Cinema-style menu board at The Diner...

Last Friday I got the inevitable text from RB: He'd been kicking some ass down the gym and was now ravenous... only one thing would tame him - a burger.

So we ventured into Soho despite our better judgement and after being faced with lengthy queues at Pitt Cue (should be called 'Pitt Queue' - 2h 45min wait) and Bodean's (2 hr wait - what is going on? Is everyone getting on the TBBB bandwagon all of a sudden??!) we found solace in The Diner, Soho (off Carnaby St.) No queue, just a dark diner, meaty smells (the good kind), and a kitsch-looking menu to peruse...

So with all in town these days firmly in burger mode and viewing figures for 'Diners, Drive Ins and Dives' going through the roof amongst the Shoreditch and Soho wannabes I may as well give you what they're asking for - a standard rundown of events...

One particular burger stuck out, as they had it's name in lights - The Diablo. I think that's a pretty lacklustre name for a burger, but when it did arrive it looked handsome... and consisted of four different cuts of beef (Rib, Sirlion, Fillet and Chuck). Yes Sir, that's just fine and dandy. RB went for the grab burger to stave off those hunger cramps after his ball-busting work out - a double shortrib cheese burger on a big slider bun...

For 'sides' we ordered a Kansas Dog - swiss and sauerkraut on a large beef 'frank' - and some chili cheese fries: why not eh!? The chili cheese fries were... great. RB was sceptical at first, but by the end he was cleaning the greaseproof paper with his pinky - they were that tasty (and greasy).

We had ourselves a chin wag and a relaxing time at The Diner. I wanted to get a milkshake or a soda float (it was a kitsch menu...), but RB was none to pleased with that suggestion. So I thought I'd finish off in style, with a classic late night combo for someone who takes healthy eating very seriously: NY-style cheesecake and a large decaf coffee. Yup...

It's The Diablo and those great chili cheese fries... dude.

The Grab Burger, with the Kansas Dog creeping up in the background... woof!

Yep, RB and me had a proper Burger Bar Baptism... and sat to eat at an actual 'bar'.

All done, short work for two growing lads...
One cup of coffee... and a cheesecake... (not a cigarette)
